With the start of the new year, almost everyone I have talked to says they lack motivation. I myself am somehow struggling with this because of winter and the lack of sunshine. It really get me moody and aids me loose my focus. So, I decided to compile a few tips on how to stay motivated in winter. Tips both you and I can refer to when in need.
Even if you find your current situation as not good enough, this doesn’t mean it’s bad. People tend to get used to all the good things they have in the present, and become less grateful for them. Write down all the things you are thankful for as an exercise for being more appreciative.
CONSIDER YOUR PAST ACHIEVEMENTS
Think back and consider your past achievements. When you are feeling down, it is mostly because you have forgotten of all your fantastic accomplishments, and that you can actually do great. Go back in your memory and remind yourself that motivation and hard work would eventually pay off.
Inspire yourself with other people’s achievements. Read and watch real life stories. Those people who are achieving their dreams are the ones who work the hardest. Take inspiration in them. This will increase your motivation.
THINK GOOD OF YOURSELF
Constantly remind yourself that you are great at what you do and want to achieve. Biggest DON’T is to undervalue, criticize and blame yourself.
DEFINE EVERYDAY GOALS
Remind yourself of your bigger goals, but then do not underestimate your everyday ones. If you write them down you will be able to check whatever is already accomplished. Step by step feels easier to achieve rather than taking a leap that’s too big. Be realistic and do not expect too much of yourself.
Find an incentive for work. For me this is traveling. Nothing feels more motivating than expecting a trip. Even if its months from now, knowing that something exciting is coming, keeps my head up, and gives me strength to carry on.
DEVELOP GOOD HABITS
This involves many things and is a very individual step. Meaning is the better you feel, the more motivated you will be. So do whatever makes you feel good and turn it into a habit. Wake up early. Do sports. Dress well. Wear more bright colors. Take care of your looks. Go for walks. Whatever makes you feel good.
SURROUND YOURSELVES WITH ENCOURAGING PEOPLE
This one is a key step. Some people would generally be less motivated than others, and this won’t help you much. Trust me, I have experienced this with a friend or two and as soon as I changed things, it made a big difference.
WAKE UP WITH A SUCCESSFUL MIND
Self-persuasion is another key to making everything much more achievable. If you try and give yourself a positive mindset upon waking up, this will help you feel more determined and motivated. It’s the hardest bit, as it requires self-control, but is such a mighty thing to do.
