This week Ron and I felt like we need a break. But since we are on a home refurbishment journey (more on my Instagram highlights), we can’t really afford being away right now until we sort it out. So, we decided to do a little escape for lunch and take a walk somewhere out of town. We ended up spending a crisp and snowy afternoon on Vitosha mountain. Mount Aleko is just 20 minutes away from Sofia by car, and and hides the prettiest views and crispiest air. It was very cold, indeed, but yet worth every step. I felt the cold only on my arms since I forgot to bring my gloves. But felt perfectly cosy and equipped in this winter coat (currently on sale) and the Sorel boots.
One of our favorite spots up there is the Aleko hut and its restaurant. I always say that it’s like a time machine which brings you back to Soviet times. And it also counts for the food! There’s so much charm in experiencing that. At least from the perspective of a 90s kid which has only lived in a world of democracy. It’s literally like a little and exciting cultural experience of it’s kind. If you are a fan of course.
And so – what was meant to be an ordinary afternoon turned into lovely and refreshing two hours on Vitosha mountain. Such a spontaneous decision and yet a great one. We definitely enjoyed every bit of it.
