Location: Porto Koufo
Porto Koufo. The most silent place I have visited on Halkidiki. It is, in fact, the largest natural harbor in Greece. So calm that it looks like a lake. But it is not. Two enormous rocks split so beautifully to let sea enter and form the calmest bay. Interestingly, ancient people have described it as the “Deaf Harbor”, because no noise from the sea can be heard from Porto Koufo. Hence, the village has a population of around just 100 residents, which explains why it has remained so silent. This makes it particularly pleasant for slow walks with marvelous views.
Now Porto Koufo is a fishing village. Here you can have the freshest fish in Halkidiki. Tzitzikas is a nice tavern which we’d recommend, but I guess all from the few taverns there will deliver good sea food. That’s what Porto Koufo is about, after all.
