“The key to personal style is understanding your individual beauty enough to know which looks will work for you and which probably won’t.” Stacy London
There were times when people were telling me I have a great personal style and this was frustrating me. What actually is my personal style? Do I have one? Of course, I do. Everyone has. It’s just that some people find it hard to define it. The problem is when you’ve got personal style that doesn’t actually look good on you.
With time I have come to the realization that it isn’t only about what I want to wear. Rather, it’s about what looks good on me. Looking back at my wardrobe a few years ago… gosh… I wouldn’t wear much of it now. And one of the reasons for this is I didn’t pay attention to what looked good on me as much as I should have. Now it’s different. I have changed my shopping habits a lot. My style has evolved, and has become more defined. This is because I have come to conclusions that have helped me understand first myself, and then my style. Here are some tips that may help you in defining yours:
Know your body well
There are thousands of tips and tricks on how to hide your body’s weaknesses and define its strengths. Just be aware of your little flaws, and avoid overexposing them.
And your personality, too
Your style needs to be personal and reflect who you are. Also you may think about what person you want to represent yourself as to the world.
Complexion, hair and eye color matter
There are certain colors that will enhance your beauty so greatly that you won’t believe it. For instance, green eyes look great with colors like purple, cinnamon browns and golds; blue eyes – with rosy pinks, etc. Find the hues that will enhance your beauty the most.
Consider your lifestyle
The perfect wardrobe should be tailored to your life. You need to feel comfortable, and appropriate!
Confidence is the key
Clothes should be comfortable, but they also need to empower you. Fashion is an instant language, so you want to speak clearly and confidently.
Choose Quality over Quantity
Quality makes a statement. Better have a few quality pieces than too much expendable junk as Rachel Zoe loves to say.
Find your style icons and don’t be afraid to take inspiration from them. Make your own style compilation that will speak best for you. Also, don’t forget that we the bloggers are here for this – to inspire you as much as we can.
Here’s a look that absolutely corresponds to my personal style. It works great for me and is purely me. Hope you’ll find your little inspiration in it. :)
