Everybody has their own guilty pleasures. One of my guiltiest are handbags. I’m a firm believer that a good bag can give every outfit an edge and raise it to another level. That’s why I am happy to spend a little bit more on such purchases. It’s investing in affordable luxury. I decided to share with you a little guide with my favorite 4 handbag brands in case you decide on buying one. And the timing is good since major retailers are currently in a mood for mid-season sales.
You must have noticed this. I have a thing for Furla. The latter is an Italian brand established in 1927 by Aldo and Margherita Furlanetto in Bologna. The handbags and all other accessories are characterized by time-honoured craftsmanship, artisanal expertise, a sense of beauty and innovative designs. Furla is a brand that looks to the future with a positive energy. It embodies the Italian style and lifestyle. From my experience Furla brings not only a sense modern luxury, but also real quality.
It all began over 40 years ago with a collection of ties which grew into an entire world, redefining American style. Ralph Lauren – the designer – was not a trained fashion designer. He designed ties for men labeled Polo. Later, he started in women’s fashion by designing clothes for his wife. He had never been on a safari, but he made beautiful clothes in khaki. He wasn’t skilled at playing polo, but he had a fantasy of how things should look. The idea was to dress for the life you wanted, and who you wanted to be. One thing I admire is that Ralph Lauren has never been interested in fashion and trends. Longevity, timelessness and style are the three keywords defining his collections, which is explanatory of why I like RL handbags so much.
Coccinelle is another a brand producing bags and accessories in the accessible luxury sector. It was founded by the Mazzieri family in Parma in 1978, where its head office is currently located. Coccinelle’s distinctive characteristics include an eye for detail, quality, refined design and study of current trends. It’s become a synonym of sophisticated, precise and highly recognizable Italian style. The brand is not as popular but is definitely worth checking out.
It all started back in 1993, when Kate Brosnahan Spade designed her perfect handbag. Debuting with just six silhouettes, she combined sleek, utilitarian shapes and colorful palettes in an entirely new way. Kate Spade New York was born. The brand embodies fresh and modern sensibility which aims to inspire colorful living. The latter explains why I am such a big fan.
Do you like any of these 4 handbag brands? Which is your favorite brand?
